2017 Judges

Some of the Judges for Nature Visions 2017 are well known to our regional camera club members and some are new to judging our expo.  Here are the biographies of our judges for this year.

Randall Sanger – Judge, Nature Exhibit

Randall Sanger is a West Virginia based landscape photographer, workshop instructor and author. Through his photography, his ultimate desire is to glorify God’s creation and showcase the natural beauty of West Virginia, and inspire others to preserve and protect the many special places found in the Mountain State.

For over twenty years, Randall has been traipsing about West Virginia in search of grand vistas, majestic waterfalls and intimate forest scenes. Randall spends most of his time exploring and photographing the amazingly beautiful scenery found in the New River Gorge National River, the Monongahela National Forest, the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge and the various state parks and wildlife management areas throughout the state.

Randall is coauthor of the multi-award winning book: West Virginia Waterfalls: The New River Gorge and his newest book, Waterfalls of Virginia and West Virginia is scheduled for a spring 2018 release.

Randall conducts photography workshops throughout West Virginia and beyond. His images have appeared in print and digital publications – both regional and national – are in private and corporate collections and have been used in numerous marketing campaigns. Randall works with several advertising/marketing agencies with duties ranging from capturing specific images for various publications to covering events like the National Boy Scout Jamboree. He was Photographer in Residence for the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge. He is a Juried Fine Arts Photographer with Tamarack: The Best of West Virginia, located in Beckley, and his work can also be viewed at the Buxton and Landstreet Gallery in Thomas, West Virginia.

Randall resides in Williamson with his wife Melissa, their daughter Hannah, and his trusty hiking companion Rocky, their mixed-breed dog.

Mollie Isaacs – Judge, Nature Exhibit

Mollie Isaacs is a professional photographer, photo tour leader, instructor, and speaker. She specializes in nature and wildlife photography, macro, and abstracts. She runs Awake The Light Photo Workshops and Tours (www.awakethelight.com) and travels to some of the most beautiful and compelling places.

She has won the “Oscar” of photography, the Kodak Gallery Award, fourteen times. Her work has been exhibited at Epcot Center in Disney World, Grand Central Station in New York City, and is in the Permanent Collection of the International Photography Hall of Fame.

She has authored several books and e-books, and her work has appeared in many publications including The New York Times, and Town & Country Magazine. In addition, she has photographed some very famous faces including actress Meryl Streep and jazz musician Wynton Marsalis.

Her home base is at the Outer Banks of North Carolina, but she travels the country and the world.

John Barclay – Judge, Nature Exhibit

John Barclay

John Barclay is an award wining freelance photographer based in Bucks County, PA. John is a passionate photographer and enthusiastic workshop leader. He is also an inspirational speaker, presenting his programs to audiences around the world.

John’s work has been published in a number of books and magazines and is treasured by many private collectors. John was the recipient of an excellence award from B&W Magazine and was chosen by Dewitt Jones to participate in his Healing Images program.

Nikhil Bahl – Judge, Photo Art

Nikhil Bahl
Nikhil Bahl is a full time professional photographer, author, educator, workshop instructor and environmentalist residing in the Washington D.C. area. Drawing inspiration from nature, Nikhil adopts novel approaches and seeks meaningful interpretations: to create photographs that transcend the commonplace, reflect deeper insights, and convey an enchantment of the subject’s beauty.

An offshoot of Nikhil’s fine art photography and love of nature is his documentation of wildlife behaviors and habitats. As a volunteer with the National Park Service and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, his goal is to portray environmental stories with an artistic appeal, so his photographs educate and motivate about the imperative of conservation.

Each year Nikhil leads several photography tours and instructional workshops in the United States and abroad. His teaching encourages participants to advance beyond ordinary photos and develop their own style and vision. Nikhil is a regular speaker at photography clubs, expos and industry events. He authored the acclaimed eBook, Creative Interpretations and writes articles on the creative and technical aspects of photography.

Nikhil’s work has been published in a number of print and electronic media and his fine art prints have been widely exhibited in the Washington metropolitan area, and are part of many private collections. You can view his work at www.nikhilbahl.com.

Corey Hilz – Judge, Student Competition

Corey Hilz
Corey Hilz is a professional photographer specializing in nature and travel photography. He is a published author and his work is seen in magazines, books and calendars, as well as in art galleries.
Corey finds the diversity in nature and cultures around the world offer boundless opportunities for new images. He approaches his subjects with an artistic eye, looking for a fresh perspective.
Corey has a passion for helping others improve their photography by sharing his knowledge through group and private instruction.
