Black and white photography has been around since the medium’s beginnings and it still inspires and fascinates us today.

In this class we will explore a brief history of the use of black and white imagery and discuss when and why we might want to use this technique. We will also discuss learning to see our color world in grayscale so that we can identify scenes that will ultimately provide the most dynamic tonal range. We will also briefly discuss techniques for converting to black and white images and identify simple ways to mimic old darkroom techniques with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.
